Service of Light🕯️🕊️
Well done to our Year 7 children who celebrated the Service of Light this evening in preparation for their upcoming Sacrament of Confirmation. They were excellent in all their responses, readings and prayers.
The Service of Light is a pre-Confirmation ceremony and is an important event in preparing the children for Confirmation. A key part of the service is when parents hand the lighted Baptismal candle to their child, acknowledging that their child is now ready to become a responsible member of the Church.
At their child’s Baptism, parents light the Baptismal candle from the Paschal candle, symbolising their commitment to pass their faith on to their child. In the same way, at the Service of Light, parents once again light their child’s Baptismal candle from the Paschal candle and hand it to their child. In doing so, parents promise to help and support their child live out the call of their Confirmation. They are agreeing, together with their child, to keep the light of faith burning in all of their lives.
Thank You to Fr. McGahan for guiding the children through the ceremony and to Mrs. McCallan and Miss. Devine for preparing the pupils so well. A special Thank You to Mrs. Shevlin for preparing our beautiful Confirmation display.
Thank You to all parents-guardians and family members who attended and participated in the handing on of faith. A special mention to our parents and children for taking part in prayers and readings.
We are all looking forward to the Sacrament of Confirmation on 14th of April.
