Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain held their eagerly awaited annual Girls’ 5-a-side Indoor Football Tyrone Final today, Tuesday 14th March, in Cookstown’s MUSA Centre.
Despite the poor weather conditions, our girls travelled to the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown to compete in the Finals of the Cumann Na mBunschol Indoor Competition along with Master Meenagh. The girls had qualified from their heat weeks previous and were looking forward to the next stage of the competition. On Finals Day our group consisted of St. Dympna’s of Dromore, St Mary’s, Dunamore and St John’s, Kingsisland. After some tough group games the girls managed to win two and draw 1 of their games and therefore qualify top from their group where they would meet St. Mary’s of Cabragh in the semi finals. The girls upped their performance again and managed to get the win they needed to reach the Final. In the Final we met St. Mary’s Dunamore from our original group and much like the earlier game this was an intense and close match with both goalkeepers making some excellent saves. Eskra eventually found the breakthrough and managed to hold onto a 1-0 lead all the way to the final whistle and claim the cup and tag of County Champions!
The girls now get to represent Tyrone in the Ulster section of the competition which will be in the Meadowbank in Magherafelt in two weeks time.
