🌟Flahavan's Primary Schools Cross Country League 2022🌟
Congratulations to all who took part in today's Flahavan's Primary Schools' Cross Country at Castlederg High School. Our Cross-Country Team had their first competitive outing of the year. The conditions were poor, due to the weather, but our runners ran fantastically well.
First up to navigate the 1k course were the St. Patrick’s fun runners. Boys and girls raced together and put in a great team performance. Matthew McKenna leading the boys in 14th, followed closely by Conor and Noah. Una leading the girls across the line in 23rd, with Tori and Emer finishing strongly behind.
Second race of the day saw the Girls' Team face the same 1k course. The Girls' Team got a great start and right from the off they were all working together to achieve a great team score. Alannah crossed the line first in 13th, Clídna and Freya both putting in a strong performance to finish 18th and 25th, with Shannon 28th, Carly, still only in P5, finishing 33rd beside her team mate Anna-Kate in 34th. The girls scored 84 and are currently sitting 4th in the league table. With two more races to go, qualification for the Ulster Final is all to play for.
Keep up the running girls!
Final race of the day - the Boys' Team. It was clear from the antics of competitors on the start line that the boys were going to have to race hard. After a rough and furious start, Cormac McGarvey established himself in the leading pack. Despite taking a hefty shoulder mid race, Cormac held his own and finished an amazing 4th, securing a great start to the team score. Racing hard behind Cormac, our P6s, Ben and Oisin, and P7 - Peadar, navigated the tricky turns and hills to finish, 10th, 12th and 13th respectively. Jack McCarroll and Thomas Cullinan finished well up the race in 28th and 36th. An unbelievable team score of 39! In any other region, a score of 39 would be enough to top the league table, but in the hotly contested Tyrone and Fermanagh region the boys are currently sitting in a qualification place of 3rd. With two more races to go, the Boys' Team will need to work hard to maintain their qualification position.
All the children should be commended for their attitude and determination. The races were long but every child got stuck in and worked hard for their team which was fantastic to see. A special Thank You to Mrs. Tracey Scullion and Master Meenagh for preparing the children and to Tracey for her guidance and encouragement throughout the day. Thanks also to all the parents and grandparents that travelled to Castlederg to cheer the children on.
Fantastic effort by all the pupils, showing great determination on the course and representing St Patrick’s P.S. with pride.
